Oktoberfest by car
It is not recommended to arrive near the festival by car as it is impossible to find parking as already stated for campers, car parking along the road are payable and at night especially, the streets are very busy. A car left in a hotel or in appointed car parks, is very expensive.
In addition, the German Police maintain a strong presence during the festival period in the areas around the Theresienwiese, and make no concessions with regard to the abuse of alcohol, which obviously, at the Oktoberfest, is the order of the day.
A number of “Park and Ride” parking areas are set up, organised especially for the occasion: Park-and-ride car parks are available at the following underground or S-bahn stations (which you have to take in any case to get to the Oktoberfest):
Garching-Hochbrück: 570 car parking spaces; Fröttmaning: 1200 car parking spaces and 80 spaces for coaches; Kieferngarten, Studentenstadt and Klinikum Großhadern, connected to the Theresienwiese with the U6 underground line.
It is also possible to reach the Wiesn by parking at the S-bahn stations on the outskirts of Munich, Bavaria and specifically with:
- Michaelibad: U5 line
- Neuperlach Süd: U5/S7 line
- Innsbrucker Ring: U2/U5 line
- Fürstenried West: U3 line
